Unit 5: A Brief History of Earth

Task 0:  Title Page and Checklist

Draw a Title Page on the next blank page of your science notebook.  You will title this unit "A Brief History of Earth"  Your drawing for the title page should contain a colored image that represents the unit.  Next to the title page you will tape in the learning target and checklist page for the unit as well.   

Task 1:  This is Sediment

Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom.  You will need to use the website linked within the Google Doc to complete the assignment.  Turn it it when you are done.  

Task 2:  Relative Age Dating Notes

Grab a copy of the notes from Mr. Tanner or print your own copy by clicking on the image of my notes below.  Once you have taped the page into your notebook, watch the video to learn the information and complete the notes.  Make sure you listen to the video as I will clarify concepts that won't make as much sense if you just fill in the blanks.  

Task 3:  Mud Puddle Relative Age Dating and Check for Understanding

 Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom.  You will need to open the PDF file with Kami to answer all of the questions.  After you have finished with the PDF, open the link to the Google Form and answer the questions.  You can edit the form until you have scored 100%. 

Task 4:  Relative Age Dating Check for Understanding

 Click the link below to access the Google Form.  This Google Form will make sure you are understanding the laws of relative age dating and how to determine the relative ages of rock strata.  Take the form as many times as needed to score 100%. 

Task 5:  Isotopes and Radioactive Decay YouTube Binge

 Click the link below to access the Google Form about Isotopes and Radioactive Decay.  Watch the YouTube videos located in the Google Form and use the information from the videos to answer all of the questions.  You can edit your responsed on the form to make sure you score 100%.

Task 5:  Making Random Events Predictable. 

 Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom.  You will need to open the Google Sheet that is located in the Assignment.  Then Click the image to the right to view the instructions that will allow you to complete the assignment.  READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. 

Task 6:  Absolute Age Dating Notes

Grab a copy of the notes from Mr. Tanner or print your own copy by clicking on the image of my notes below.  Once you have taped all four pages of the notes separately into your notebook, watch the video to learn the information and complete the notes.  Make sure you listen to the video as I will clarify concepts that won't make as much sense if you just fill in the blanks.  

Task 7:  Absolute Age Dating Practice Problems 

Click the link below for your class period to open the assignment in Google Classroom.  Use the absolute age dating notes to help you complete the assignment.  Check the answer key after the assignment is completed to make sure you understand how to answer the problems. 

Task 8  History of Life on Earth Timeline

Click the link below to open the assignment in Google Classroom.  The Google Doc will act as your research guide to learn the information you will need to complete the timeline.  The Google Sheet is where you actually build out your timeline.  Please read all of the instructions and watch the video that teaches you how to build the timeline.
